IEEE Transactions On Computer-Aided Design Of Integrated Circuits And Systems (TCAD) embarks on its 34th year as we enter the New Year. The operation of the journal remains healthy. We received 750 submissions to date and accepted 140 papers to date for 2014, with an average turnaround time of 67 days from submission to decision. We will be expanding our editorial board to help reduce this turnaround time further and keep the workload for our hardworking associate editors manageable. The journal is also evolving to encompass topics that are representative of the new generation of circuits and systems that are emerging around us. We were pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming submissions to special issues on embedded security and automotive electronics. We have lined up keynote papers that will introduce the readers to emerging design automation challenges in brain-inspired computing and system design using emerging spin devices in the upcoming year. Our goal is to ensure that the journal covers new dimensions on what design automation means in the most encompassing fashion. We solicit your help in identifying new topics and systems that will benefit from design automation research.
The success of the journal directly depends on the quality of submissions. We would like to emphasize the policy that requires authors to disclose any related submissions, either accepted or in review, to other conferences or journals at the time of submission. This information is vital to ensure that the reviewers gain the proper perspective on your contributions. We also encourage authors to consider the journal as your first source of submission rather than as an extension of a conference paper. The turnaround times for TCAD have become competitive to that of premier design automation conferences. Further, authors benefit from more focused reviewer expertise and the ability to rebut and address the review suggestions.
We are also considering creating a panel of expert reviewers for each TCAD subtopic area to assist the associate editors in the coming years. The vision for this panel is to groom the next generation of associate editors for TCAD and help create a better match between reviewer interests and paper topics.

Vijaykrishnan Narayanan received the B.E. degree from the University of Madras, Madras, India, in 1993, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, USA, in 1998.
He is currently a Professor of computer science and engineering and electrical engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA, USA. His current research interests include embedded systems, computer architecture, design using emerging design technologies, and power-aware computing. He has deep interests in cross-disciplinary advances and had led and participated in such projects.
Dr. Narayanan served as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems and as the Editor-in-Chief of the ACM Journal of Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems. He has won several awards, including the 2012 ASPDAC Ten-Year Retrospective Most Influential Paper, 2012 Penn State Alumni Society Premier Research Award, and 2010 Outstanding Alumnus Award from Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu, India. He is a fellow of IEEE. He has worked with several outstanding students who are currently in industry and academia throughout the world.
