Georgia Tech will host the first Internet-of-Things (IoT) summer school in summer 2018 to study all aspects of IoT systems, ranging from devices to algorithms and data science.  IoT technology is in use in domains ranging from manufacturing to medicine and new applications are rapidly emerging.  IoT systems rely on a range of technological advances: low-power VLSI devices, wireless ad hoc networking, data analytics.

The intended audience of the summer school is Ph.D. students and young professionals from both industry and academia. The summer school is designed to introduce young scholars and professionals to challenges in IoT research and to build a community of researchers.  The summer school will include talks by experts from numerous institutions, presentations by attendees, and both formal and informal discussions.

Speakers include: Yiran Chen, Duke; Robert Dick, Univerity of Michigan; Hai Li, Duke; Howard Shrobe, MIT; Mark Tehranipoor, University of Florida

Logistics information:

  • The summer school will be held on the Georgia Tech campus.
  • No registration fee is required but attendees are requested to register formally by Friday, June 20. Register by sending an email to wolf@ece.gatech.eduwith your full name and institutional affiliation and job title or student status.
  • A limited number of room and board scholarships are available to Ph.D. students who wish to participate in the summer school.  Those who wish to apply for a scholarship should do so by Friday, June 1.  Apply by email to with two separate emails: the first including a one-paragraph statement describing why you would like to attend the summer school; in addition, your advisor should separately send a one-paragraph statement of support.
