2021 EDA Summer Camp at National Taiwan University

CEDA Taipei Chapter sponsored the 2021 EDA Summer Camp organized by National Taiwan University (NTU) on August 12-13, 2021. The summer camp aims to foster and cultivate talented students in Electronic Design Automation (EDA). It is a two-day event introducing EDA to undergraduate students of universities in Taiwan for their potential graduate study in the field.

On the first day of the program, Prof. Yao-Wen Chang, Present of IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation, delivered the opening speech introducing the background, achievements, and future EDA opportunities in Taiwan. In the afternoon, Prof. Jie-Hong Jiang, Jiun-Lang Huang, Hui-Ru Jiang, and James Chien-Mo Li of National Taiwan University gave lectures on the EDA flow for VLSI design. Also, representatives from Synopsys, Cadence, MediaTek, TSMC, Siemens EDA, and Maxeda Technology shared their experiences with the students.

On the second day, a mini-EDA contest, designed by Synopsys this year, was conducted for the students to solve challenging industrial problems. Through brainstorming and teamwork, the students presented their solutions before the award ceremony in the afternoon.

The 73 participating students gave their feedback and expressed the helpfulness of the summer camp for their future graduate study decisions.

2021 EDA Workshop in Taiwan

CEDA Taipei Chapter sponsored the 17th Annual EDA Workshop in Taiwan on December 18-19, 2021. It is a hybrid event consisting of the first-day online program and the second-day physical meeting at National Taiwan University (NTU), Taipei.

The workshop provides a platform for exchanging and discussing ideas in electronic design automation through a series of invited talks and poster presentations of top international conference papers. It activates the EDA community in Taiwan and promotes domestic and global visibility.

On the first day of the program, Prof. Yao-Wen Chang, President of IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation and Dean of the EECS College at NTU, delivered the first invited talk on "EDA Challenges and Solutions for Emerging Technologies and Heterogeneous Integration." Two more presentations on "Cadence Integrated Platform Solution for 3D-IC Design" and "Resource estimation for a precise quantitative analysis of quantum algorithms" were given by Mr. Thunder Lay of Cadence and Dr. Mathias Soeken of Microsoft, respectively. The invited talks were then followed by a poster session consisting of six presentations of papers published in top EDA conferences in 2021.

On the second day, Dr. Robert Li, Chairman/President of Synopsys, Taiwan, presented "Welcome to the Era of SysMoore," and Dr. Jim Chang of TSMC introduced "EDA Frontiers with TSMC 3DFabric." The workshop ends with the 2021 CAD Contest award ceremony for domestic teams.

There are 215 participants in this workshop. After the workshop, a joint meeting for IEEE CEDA and ACM SIGDA members was held.
