L. Miguel Silveira (S'85–M'95–SM'00–F'12) was born in Lisboa, Portugal. He received the Engineer's (summa cum laude) and Master's degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico IST), Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal, in 1986 and 1989, respectively, and the M.S., E.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, in 1990, 1991, and 1994, respectively. He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at IST, Universidade de Lisboa, and serves as Pro-Rector at the Universidade de Lisboa representing the university in UNITE!, an european alliance of universities focused on science, innovation and engineering. He was Head of IST’s ECE Department from 2013 until 2015 and was also Vice-President for International Affairs at IST from 2015 until 2020. Prof. Silveira is also, since its inception, a Senior Researcher at INESC-ID, a private, not-for-profit research laboratory associated with IST where he was President of its Scientific Council for several years. He is currently also a Director of INESC INOV, a center for research and technology transfer also affiliated with IST and the Universidade de Lisboa. His research interests include various aspects of computer-aided design of integrated circuits, with emphasis on modeling and simulation, parallel computer algorithms, and the theoretical and practical issues concerning numerical simulation methods for circuit design problems. Prof. Silveira has chaired multiple sub-committees at DATE and ICCAD, and was a member of multiple program committees of several IEEE conferences. He has received best paper awards at various IEEE sponsored conferences, including ECTC, VLSI-SoC and SBCCI, as well as all three major EDA conferences, DATE, DAC and ICCAD.
