Biography

Mircea R. Stan (S’94–M’96–SM’98–F’14) received the Diploma degree from the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania, in 1984, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, USA, in 1994 and 1996, respectively.

He is currently a Professor at the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA, where he teaches and does research in high-performance low-power VLSI, temperature-aware circuits and architecture, embedded systems, and nanoelectronics.

Dr. Stan is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Eta Kappa Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi. He was a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award in 1997. He was a co-author on Best Paper Awards at ISQED 2008, GLSVLSI 2006, ISCA 2003, and SHAMAN 2002. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems—Part I: Regular Papers from 2004 to 2008 and the IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems from 2001 to 2003. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology. He was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS)Society from 2004 to 2005 and from 2012 to 2013.
