Alain Girault holds a senior research fellow position at INRIA, the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control. He received his PhD from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble in 1994 after doing his research in the Verimag laboratory. He spent two years and a half as a postdoc researcher, in the ESTEREL team at INRIA in Sophia-Antipolis, France (1995), in the PTOLEMY group at UC Berkeley (1996), and in the PATH project at UC Berkeley (1997). In 2008 he was on sabbatical leave at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He has held various positions at INRIA: head of science at the Grenoble Rhône-Alpes research center, vice-chair at the evaluation committee, and currently deputy scientific director. His research interests include the design of cyber-physical and real-time systems, with a special concern for distributed implementation, fault-tolerance, reliability, low power, and multi-criteria optimization.
