IEEE System Validation and Debug Technology Committee Activities

IEEE System Validation and Debug Technology Committee (SVDTC) (Debug Subcommittee) has prepared a presentation to IEEE to approve Scan and Array Debug Standardization efforts. Based on the results from the efforts out of the SVDTC debug sub-committee, we presented to IEEE TTSC (Test Technology Standards Committee) a proposal to approve starting a new IEEE Standards effort for “Scan and Array Debug for SoCs”. This topic was titled as “Standard for System-level State Extraction for Functional Validation and Debug” to make it more generic.

Sankaran Menon, Chair of the SVDTC Debug sub-committee presented the PAR (Project Authorization Request) for P2929 “Standard for System-level State Extraction for Functional Validation and Debug” to the IEEE TTSC and the Standardization effort was approved by TTSC. Sankaran Menon started the IEEE P2929 standardization WG meetings with ~28 attendees from Academia and Industry around middle of December 2020. One of the first activities conducted was to hold elections and the following four officers were elected for IEEE P2929 Standards committee:

  • Chair: Sankaran Menon
  • Vice-Chair: Eric Rentschler
  • Secretary: Ilya Wagner
  • Editor: Spencer Millican

The IEEE P2929 Standardization effort on Scan and Array debug has been regularly meeting with ~24 to ~32 attendees every week and we have been making steady progress with the standardization efforts on a weekly basis. Thanks to IEEE-CEDA SVDTC for creating a stepping-stone and all the support to grow from a small SVDTC debug sub-committee to IEEE P2929 Standardization efforts to develop standards in the area of “Scan and Array Debug”. If you are interested in participating with the IEEE P2929 Standardization on Scan and Array Debug, you can contact us through email to Sankaran Menon, PhD.
