Knowledge Insights on “NAND Flash Memory: Innovating To Meet World’s Storage Needs” - 23 November 2024
A briefing of the session’s agenda was given by the CEDA-DSCE Student Secretary. Dr. Sudipta Dutta was introduced and welcomed on stage by the CEDA-DSCE Student Webmaster. The session focuses on how NAND flash memory technology has evolved to address the growing demand for efficient, reliable, and high-capacity digital storage solutions. From 2D to 3D NAND, advancements have significantly increased storage density, speed, and cost efficiency, enabling widespread use in SSDs and smartphones. Innovations in cell architectures (SLC, MLC, TLC, QLC) balance capacity, performance, and reliability, while addressing challenges like wear-out and power consumption. As data-heavy applications like AI, IoT, and cloud computing expand, NAND continues to evolve with smarter controllers and sustainable practices, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of modern digital storage solutions. Dr. Dutta also took questions from the audience and had an interactive exchange of words and gave insights on how to work better in industry-based projects. The session started at 10am and was concluded by 11:30 with a student crowd of 207. A token of appreciation and gratitude was presented by IEEE CEDA-DSCE Student Chair. The session was concluded with a Vote of Thanks from the CEDA-DSCE Faculty, Dr. P Vimala.
Technical Talk: “PCB Design: Best practices for High-performance and Reliability” - 15 November 2024
Mr. Likith Krishna was introduced by the CEDA Student Chair and a briefing of the session was given by the CEDA-DSCE Faculty Advisor, Dr. P. Vimala. The session was about the fundamentals of PCB Design and the tools required to achieve performance in academia and industry, respectively. Covering the concepts required and the design steps, the rules or guidelines for a variety of parameters: Power requirements, Thermal estimation, I2C margin, IO timing, Single Ended Margin, Differential Margin and Impedance over Frequency for different power rails to keep in mind while designing PCBs as such. Some of the crucial steps like Board Stack-up, Component placement and Board layout were explained in adequate detail. He also took up issues like Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and how to mitigate them using Filtering techniques and Layout strategies. Likith also took questions from the audience and had an interactive exchange of words and how to work better in industry-based projects. The session started at 11:20am. A token of appreciation and gratitude was presented to Mr. Krishna from the IEEE CEDA-DSCE Chapter. The session was concluded with a Vote of Thanks from the CEDA-DSCE Faculty Advisor.
Inauguration of IEEE - Council On Electronics Design Automation (CEDA) - 31 August 2024
IEEE-DSCE Student Branch Launches a new student branch. On 31st August, a new Student Chapter was inaugurated under IEEE-DSCE Student Branch: IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA). We were joined by 75 students, to grace the occasion.
Dr. Vimala P, Faculty Advisor, CEDA. Ms. Indrani Aekabote, Student Chair, CEDA Chief guests include: Dr. Shailesh Sakri, Aloke Das, Dr. Girish A, Dr. Ramesh Babu (VP, DSCE), Dr. Shobha K R (HOD, ECE) and Dr. Kiran Gupta (SB Advisor, DSCE).
Dr. Shobha spoke on the importance of having joined a vast forum such as IEEE and its benefits.
Dr. Kiran Gupta enlightened us about the soft skills development which is a part of organising events and conferences under IEEE-DSCE Student Branch.
Aloke Das provided valuable insights into recent CEDA events, highlighting notable activities such as the SWEAT workshop. He also elaborated on the applications of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and discussed the broad scope and impact of EDA in various industries. His talk underscored how EDA tools and methodologies are essential for advancing electronic design and innovation.
